    This CIT Academy is a forty-hour course of instruction that is completed in a one-week session.

    The objectives of the CIT Academy are to:

        Increase officers' awareness of behavioral health issues and empathy of individuals experiencing behavioral health disorders.

        Instruct officers in effective techniques utilized when encountering individuals experiencing behavioral health issues and provide safer interventions.

        Broaden officers' knowledge of resources and understanding of legal issues.

        Assist officers with understanding how to provide the most appropriate resolutions.

    Peace Officers who successfully complete this training and pass all required testing will be recognized by the State of Utah as a CIT Officer.  

    Non peace officers that successfully complete this training will receive a certificate of completion.

    Due to some physical aspects of this academy, peace officers on light duty will not be allowed to attend.



    Tuition for this Academy:

    $75 for Peace Officers of agencies within Salt Lake County.

    $75 for Peace Officers of agencies outside of Salt Lake County.

    $75 for all Non Peace Officers

    $200 for Peace Officers of agencies outside the State of Utah

    Attendance at this conference can be used for POST in-service training hours and CIT Utah continuing education requirements, as well as 5.3 CEU's and continuing education for certified peer support specialists

    This year's CIT Utah Conference brings together law enforcement, behavioral health, people with lived experience, family members, and advocates, community leaders and government entities to learn and discuss the crisis response services in Utah.

    • "My Experience with Psychosis and How You Can Help." Julie Hardle, CPSS, Commissioner, Utah Behavioral Health Commission.
    • "Civil Commitment Laws and Ethical Considerations." LeAnne Huff, CMHC, Crisis Administrator, Office of Substance Use and Mental Health.
    • "Courts and Case Law Regarding Use of Force in a Mental Health Crises." Troy Rawlings, JD, Davis County Attorney.
