Street Smart De-escalation

  • 21 May 2018
  • 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • 789 W Center St., Spanish Fork, UT

THIS COURSE IS NOT OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT AND IS BY INVITE ONLY.

Street Smart De-escalation is a 4-hour course of instruction through a partnership between CIT Utah and the Utah Attorney General's Office.

This training provides information on liability issues as it looks at court cases involving law enforcement's response to person in crisis.  This training also focuses on four principles of safety.  Along with prioritizing the essential need of officer safety, the principles emphasize safety of all persons involved and safety of the community.

In receiving this training, law enforcement officers will learn about liability issues and also learn or review the same de-escalating techniques instructed in the CIT Utah Academies.

These techniques assist officers with responding effectively, interacting rationally, and remaining calm in emotionally charged situations.

Officers will also learn how to recognize hooks and triggers as a method to create empathy and establish a resolution. Additionally, officers will learn simple acronyms that will contribute to quick and effective implementation of skills that can be used to safely guide officers' decisions, judgment, and actions in these emotionally charged situations.
