for Community Members
Community members, tasked to work with the public, can encounter a situation involving an emotionally escalated individual. De-escalation Training for Community Members is a four-hour course of instruction that focuses on de-escalating a situation and maintaining safety until a resolution can be reached or until others can respond to take the situation over.
In receiving this training, community members will learn techniques to remain calm and respond rationally in emotionally charged situations. Community members will also learn to recognize hooks and triggers as a method to enhance understanding, create empathy, and lead to de-escalation. Additionally, community members will learn simple acronyms that can be implemented as tools to safely guide their actions in these emotionally charged situations.
This course is taught in a high-energy, casual, and interactive format. The instruction incorporates scenario based training based on situations that the specific community member may encounter to allow practice and/or observation of the techniques presented.
This scheduled course of instruction is by invitation only and not open to the public.
