Street Smart De-escalation training integrates de-escalation techniques and officer-safety tactics with scenario-based learning in the

Utah Attorney General VirTra® virtual reality center.

As officers face increasing demands to effectively deal with persons with mental illness and emotional disturbances, many agencies have sought Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for all. With emerging studies and national support recommending agencies provide varied training options to address these types of calls for service, this training provides all officers with the same de- escalation skills trained in the CIT Utah academy, while allowing agencies to develop true Crisis Intervention Teams.

Instructors for this training:

Ken Wallentine, Office of the Utah Attorney General

Ron Bruno, CIT Utah
